A Funny Read

So things are mostly boring here, um, it snowed briefly today and tomorrow I'm going to the big city to buy groceries!

Since my life is currently so eventless I shall point you towards something more amusing: It's Just Another Baby. It is a short little online book of a pregnancy from the husband's point of view, which had me cracking up this afternoon. The author couldn't get it published, but if you like it you can donate a dollar! I thought that was cool, a good way to make money off of one's writing if one can't get published.

Saw Baby Again Today

This morning we had a prenatal appointment and a quick but fun ultrasound. Baby was bopping around all over the place, more active than last time. She is always such a little wiggler, I just know she's going to be one of those babies who is all over the place and into everything, curious and strong. She's going to be lots of fun; I can't wait to meet her.

We saw her heart clearly this time, beating strong. And she still looks like a girl, which is good... it would be terribly disconcerting to find out that she's a boy! We didn't get any photos this time, but we did tape it and one of these days I will get a digital copy and perhaps post some pics from it here.

Our next appointment is in two weeks, and that's when I'll do the glucose tolerance test, to see if I might have gestational diabetes. I'm not looking forward to it even though it doesn't sound like it's going to be a big ordeal or anything, I just don't think it's necessary. However my CNM encouraged me to take it, as I do have a family history of diabetes, so I'll do it without fussing. She also encouraged me to sign up for childbirth classes. Mr. Peach and I have discussed this a bit, and we'd kind of decided to do the Bradley Method, on our own, using the workbooks and stuff, but upon thinking about it I think we should probably take a class, mainly because I have no self-discipline and it will be much easier to actually do what the Bradley Method wants me to do if I have a teacher telling me to do it. I called the local midwifery school and their last session just ended and they don't have the dates set up for the next session but they are supposed to call me when they do.

So, appointments every two weeks now, Bradley Method classes, and oh yeah, I have only gained one pound this month! I was quite surprised, as I graze all day and get hardly any exercise. Still, I picked up a few books on prenatal nutrition as I want to be healthy, and I want baby to be healthy as well.

Twenty-Five Weeks!

I pretty much live in these overalls, top buttons undone, as you can see. Sometimes I even have to unbutton the middle buttons too! It's about time to make the switch to maternity overalls, made with room for a gigantobelly. I love not having a waistband pressing into my belly.

I noticed the other day that I have some new stretch marks. Just two, on the lower part of my belly, very small and shimmery... not even ugly, and much less noticeable than the scar from my navel piercing, but still, I cried for about a half hour over them. I suppose I am vain but I happen to like my young, smooth body and was (foolishly I suppose) hoping to keep it for a while. This was the first sign that things are never going to be the same, physically or otherwise, and I guess I was mourning that.

My next prenatal appointment is next Thursday morning and I'm looking forward to it. We get another ultrasound to check out baby's heart, and that'll be fun. It'll be interesting to see how much weight I've gained in the past month. It's still all mostly belly but I noticed a bit of flab above my belly, on my ribs! A very strange place for flab to be but I guess it's just been displaced by the baby, like all my organs.

Speaking of my ribs, they have been causing me much pain. I guess they're stretching out to accommodate baby, and boy oh boy does it hurt, every day. Not fun.

In other news our plumbing is fixed! We discovered Monday that our septic tank was clogged and a pipe in our well was broken. Which explains why our water wasn't draining properly and why we were hearing the pump running far more often than we should've. Mr. Peach had to go wallowing in muck in an attempt to fix it on his birthday, poor guy. We had to call in professionals though, and now it's all better! We can flush the toilet and wash the dishes and take showers! How wonderful.

Baby Stuff!

Here is our stroller:

The stroller has all sorts of pleasing features - it is lightweight, collapsable, unzips to recline, and has pockets!

Here is baby's bed:

It straps on to our bed, so baby can sleep next to me without being in our very small bed. It has wheels, so you can raise the sidebar and use it as a bassinet in other parts of the house, or use it as a changing table. And it also has side pockets, and a big storage space in the bottom! However I just went and saw that the bed and the cosleeper do not line up, so we will have to buy leg extensions for it. *sigh*

And this is the boppy with the cover I made, which I feel much less hateful towards now:

It is quite cozy and soft.

Yesterday I went into town and bought some more newborn gowns, an adorable little hat and sock set featuring snails and vegetables, and a sleep & play outfit on sale for only $4!!! I also bought some board books: Dr. Seuss's There's a Wocket in My Pocket (my favorite Dr. Seuss book) and Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? along with Guess How Much I Love You? I'm expecting some other books from solterrabooks.com in the mail.

I have also ordered this diaper bag but won't get it until late March/early April.

Project Completed: Boppy Cover

I just finished sewing a cover for my Boppy pillow. It was HARD. I am very much a beginning sewer and the geometry of the whole thing about did me in. As a matter of fact I am so disgusted with the thing that I'm not even going to post a picture, which I came here to do. Stupid thing.

I should've gone with the idea of modeling the cover from the plastic case the Boppy came in, but unfortunately I'd already cut the fabric by the time it hit me. However I still have plenty of fabric and in a few days when the sight of the Boppy no longer fills me with aggression I plan on sewing another one. It's a nice pink rosebud printed flannel, cozy and soft.

In other news, the Arm's Reach cosleeper we ordered which was supposed to be here on Saturday still is not here and that fact is making me quite grumpy.

Return of the Kittums

My cat is home again. I suspect he was under the house the whole time. When Scott came home from work yesterday afternoon I asked him if he would walk around the property with me and yell "Kitty-kitty". He agreed to and we put our jackets on and headed out the door. I heard him say "Who are you?" and saw him lean down to check the collar of a kitty curled up in the leaves beside the porch (our three cats are black, well, one is black and white but still they're all pretty hard to tell apart). That's Pixel's favorite place to lay and snooze outside and sure enough it was him!

He didn't get up though and we were worried that he was hurt. I picked him up and checked him out and couldn't feel anything wrong with him and he was purring away like he always does around me, sweet little guy. So I carried him back around to the sunroom and placed him in front of the food and water but he wouldn't eat or drink. He walked over the to wicker couch and jumped up and stayed there for the rest of the evening.

Scott found some rodent guts outside in the yard (with Bootsie's help) and guessed the Pig had caught and eaten a mouse or mole or something that had made him sick. Poor little guy. He's doing better this morning though; when I entered the sunroom he got up from the couch and came to see me. I didn't let him outside with the other kitties because I wanted to make sure he was ok. I petted him a bit and then he went and started eating! Hooray!

I am so glad he's back!

Have You Seen This Cat?

My kitty, Pixel, AKA Mr. Pig, didn't come home last night and I'm very worried about him. The cats stay outside during the day but at night we let them in the sunroom. Well, last night I called and called and he never came. He's stayed outside all night before but never without making an appearance at home first. Mr. Peach drove around the nearby roads, looking for him. He didn't want me to go and see him mushed if he'd been hit by a car. But he didn't see him anyways, which was a relief, but he still has not come home. It's even more upsetting that there's nothing I can think to do, other than stand on the porch calling "kitty-kitty" and clicking my tongue. If we lived in town I could at least put up posters.
